Essential Workers Child Care FAQ

WHY IS HGG TRANSITIONING TO ESSENTIAL CARE WORK?

Under the Shelter-in-Place directive, all businesses deemed
non-essential were mandated to close. This mandate included all
pre-school and childcare facilities. However, under California’s
health and safety guidelines for Essential Workers, HGG may open to
provide care for the children of Essential Workers. We are grateful
for the opportunity to serve those in our community in this manner.

WHAT SAFETY STANDARDS HAVE YOU ADOPTED FOR HGG TO PROVIDE CARE FOR
ESSENTIAL WORKERS?

This program is required to follow the policies and procedures
recommended under the State of California’s health and safety
guidelines. We are mandated by the Occupational Safety & Health
Administration (OSHA), Center for Disease Control (CDC), and Alameda
County under the directives of Governor Newsom.

WHAT HEALTH AND SAFETY PRACTICES WILL BE PUT IN PLACE UNDER THE
ESSENTIAL WORKER’S CHILDCARE?

  • All adults 18 years or older will be required to wear a mask when
bringing and/or picking up their child.
  • Parents will be required to stand 6 feet apart if it is necessary
to wait prior to entering the building.
  • Wellness checks will be implemented on both parents and children
prior to entering the building each day. This will include temperature
check and physically assessing both child and parent’s physical
    appearance.
  • This will be done to ensure all appear healthy and are showing no
    visible symptoms.
  • Upon entering the building all will be required to sanitize their
    hands.
  • Parents will not be allowed to go beyond the lobby area and
restrooms. The children will be escorted by HGG staff to their
classrooms. When a child is picked up at the end of the day, HGG staff
will escort the child to the lobby and released to his/her parent.
  • There will be up to 12 children in each classroom with 2 teachers.
  • Staff will be required to go through the Wellness check. The same
staff will be working with the same group of children daily and may
not switch rooms or groups. Staff will be required to wear gloves and
    wear masks.
  • All staff has been cleared by 3 processes’; FBI, DOJ, and
Live-Scan, as well as up to date on CPR and First Aid training.

WHERE IS CHILDCARE BEING HELD?

HGG will provide childcare in three classrooms, that are not in close
proximity. This prevents the chance of children being in contact with
children outside of their group. Each group has access to its own
bathroom. Each group has a separate outdoor area to run an exercise
and/or engage in quiet activities if the weather permits. All
equipment and structures have been taped off and will be unavailable
for use by the children.

WHAT HAPPENS IF A CHILD/STAFF DEMONSTRATES SYMPTOMS OF ILLNESS?

Due to this global pandemic, families will be required to pick up
their child within the hour if ill. The child will be quarantined in
an isolated area until the parent/guardian arrives. We are mandating
that it take no longer than 1 hour or a fine will be assessed. Parents
will also be required to have at least 3 adults on their Emergency
Pick-Up list, giving more options for quick pick-ups. A staff person
who becomes ill will be sent home immediately. The environment will be
deep cleaned and sanitized by the custodial team, which are on-site
daily.

In the event of COVID exposure, the CDC will be notified, and their
instructions will be followed to ensure best practices are being
implemented.

In order to reduce exposure, we are asking all families to be
transparent with illnesses contracted within their family circle. We
are requesting that parents keep their child home if their child or
family member is ill; especially if they are displaying any symptoms
that are related to the COVID-19, such as fever, achy body, and/or
breathing difficulty.
